What Is D365 Commerce

One Platform for Every Retail Channel

Dynamics 365 Commerce is Microsoft's omnichannel retail application. It combines a central Commerce headquarters with in-store point of sale through the Store Commerce app, an ecommerce storefront managed in site builder, and a call centre channel for assisted orders. A headless commerce engine, the Commerce Scale Unit, serves the same products, prices, promotions and stock to every channel, while finance and supply chain run on Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management. MageBytes implements Commerce, extends it, and connects it to existing online stores and marketplaces.

Plan My Commerce Project
  • One set of rules

Products, prices, discounts and loyalty are defined once and used in every store and online.

  • Ecommerce specialists

We build Magento, Shopify and BigCommerce stores too, so we know when to use the native storefront and when to integrate.

  • Our own sync platform

Connectra supports Dynamics 365 Commerce for orders, products, customers and invoices.

How We Work

Commerce Rollout, Store by Store

Retail rollouts work best in waves. Timelines depend on channels, stores and integrations, and are agreed after discovery.

  1. 1

    Discovery

We map your channels, store operations, pricing, promotions, payments and fulfilment flows.

  2. 2

    Design

Channel setup, store topology, storefront approach, extensions and integrations are designed and signed off.

  3. 3

    Build & Configure

Headquarters, POS, storefront and integrations configured and built in reviewable sprints.

  4. 4

    Pilot

A pilot store and channel go live first, with staff training and fixes before wider rollout.

  5. 5

    Roll Out & Support

Remaining stores and channels go live in waves, with support and update testing afterwards.

In Depth

Planning a Dynamics 365 Commerce Project

When Commerce is the right fit, and the choices that shape the project.

1

Is Dynamics 365 Commerce right for you?

Commerce suits retailers and brands that run physical stores as well as online channels and want one platform for stock, pricing, promotions, customers and finance. It is built on the same platform as Finance and Supply Chain Management, so it fits best where that ERP is in place or planned.

If you sell mainly online and already run Business Central, a dedicated ecommerce platform integrated with the ERP is often simpler. We'll tell you which approach fits.

2

Native storefront or your existing store?

The native Commerce storefront shares pricing, promotions and stock with stores and call centre without extra integration. Some businesses prefer to keep Magento, Adobe Commerce or Shopify for the online shop. The headless commerce APIs make that possible: the store handles the shopping experience, and Commerce stays the source of truth for orders, stock and customers.

3

Stores, devices and connectivity

Store Commerce runs on Windows, iOS, Android and macOS, or in a browser. Stores with unreliable internet can use offline mode or a self-hosted Commerce Scale Unit; others run fully on Microsoft's cloud. We plan devices, peripherals, payment terminals and topology store by store.

  • Store Commerce app or web
  • Cloud or self-hosted scale unit
  • Payment terminals & peripherals
  • Offline operation
4

Omnichannel fulfilment and marketplaces

Click and collect, ship from store and returns to any channel depend on accurate stock and clear order routing. We design those rules with your operations team, and connect marketplaces and other storefronts so their orders flow into the same process.

5

What drives cost and timeline

The main factors are the number of channels and stores, how much POS and storefront customisation is needed, payment and hardware choices, integrations, and whether Finance and Supply Chain Management is being implemented at the same time. A pilot-store approach keeps risk low. Licences are paid to Microsoft or your licensing provider separately.
