What Is Odoo POS
A Till System Connected to Everything Else
Odoo Point of Sale is Odoo's browser-based till app for shops, restaurants and bars. It runs on tablets, laptops and touchscreen terminals, keeps taking orders if the internet connection drops, and works with receipt printers, scanners, scales, cash drawers and payment terminals. Because it shares one database with Odoo Inventory, Accounting, CRM and eCommerce, each sale updates stock, revenue and customer history without a separate integration. MageBytes implements Odoo POS from hardware selection to go-live: configuration, loyalty and pricing rules, payment setup, data migration and staff training.

How We Work
From Store Review to Every Till Live
Each rollout is proven in one location before it reaches the rest.
- 1
Store & Menu Review
We look at how your shops or restaurants sell today: products or menus, payment methods, promotions and the hardware in place.
- 2
Configure & Connect
POS settings, products, pricelists and loyalty rules are configured, and hardware and payment terminals are connected and tested.
- 3
Pilot Location
One shop or restaurant runs Odoo POS for real, and we adjust layouts, receipts and closing routines from staff feedback.
- 4
Train & Roll Out
Staff are trained on the till and managers on sessions, refunds and reports, then the remaining locations go live.
- 5
Tune & Extend
We review the first weeks of trading and add features such as self-ordering, new promotions or more channels.
In Depth
Planning an Odoo POS Rollout
The decisions that make the difference between a till that helps staff and one they work around.
- Retail and restaurant are two different setups
- Hardware, IoT and payment terminals
- Offline mode and connectivity
- Loyalty, pricing and promotions
- Stock, accounting and omnichannel
- What drives cost and timeline
Retail and restaurant are two different setups
Odoo POS covers both, but they're configured differently. Retail focuses on barcodes, pricelists, weighed products, serial numbers and returns. Restaurant mode adds floor plans and tables, orders sent to kitchen printers or a preparation display, bill splitting, tips and self-ordering from a QR code or kiosk.
Businesses that do both — a café inside a shop, or a producer with its own outlets — can run separate POS configurations on one database. Food businesses with a central kitchen can also link POS demand to Odoo Manufacturing.
Hardware, IoT and payment terminals
Some devices, such as network receipt printers, connect to Odoo POS directly. Others — scales, some scanners, customer displays or self-ordering kiosks — connect through Odoo's IoT box, which links local hardware to the POS. We confirm each device against the Odoo version you're running before anything is bought.
Integrated card payments depend on a terminal provider supported by Odoo in your country, so this is worth deciding early. We test the whole setup in the actual store, including receipts, refunds and weak Wi-Fi spots, before the pilot starts.
- Receipt & kitchen printers
- Barcode scanners & scales
- Cash drawers & customer displays
- Integrated payment terminals
Offline mode and connectivity
Odoo POS loads products and prices into the browser when a session opens, so tills can keep taking orders through a short connection drop and send them to the server once it returns. That protects trading, but it isn't a reason to skimp on the network: integrated card payments, invoices and anything that needs fresh server data still rely on a connection. We plan network and fallback payment methods with you.
Loyalty, pricing and promotions
Odoo's loyalty features handle points programmes, coupons, gift cards, eWallets, buy-X-get-Y offers and promotion codes, and the same programmes can apply in your Odoo online shop. Pricelists can vary by shop, customer group or period.
The risk is complexity: overlapping promotions confuse staff and customers, and discounts without access controls erode margin. We design a small set of clear rules and limit who can override prices at the till.
Stock, accounting and omnichannel
Each POS is linked to a warehouse, so sales reduce stock in the right location, and each payment method maps to an accounting journal. Closing a session posts sales and payments to Odoo Accounting and compares counted cash with expected cash, so differences are spotted the same day.
With Odoo eCommerce, shops and website share products, customers, stock and loyalty. If you sell on Shopify or Magento, we integrate the store with Odoo so stock and orders stay in step across every channel.
What drives cost and timeline
The main factors are the number of locations and tills, retail versus restaurant features, the hardware and payment providers involved, the complexity of loyalty and pricing rules, products, customers or gift card balances to migrate, and integrations with other channels. Odoo licence costs are separate from implementation.

Got Questions?
Odoo POS FAQs
Hardware, offline mode, payments and loyalty — answered.
Yes, within limits. Tills keep taking orders through a connection drop and sync once it returns, but integrated card payments, invoicing and anything needing fresh server data require a connection.
Odoo POS works with receipt and kitchen printers, barcode scanners, scales, cash drawers, customer displays and payment terminals, connected directly or through Odoo's IoT box. We confirm each device for your Odoo version before purchase.
