What Is Power Platform
Low-Code Tools on One Microsoft Data Layer
Microsoft Power Platform is a family of low-code products for building business solutions: Power Apps for custom apps, Power Automate for workflow automation, Power BI for reporting and analytics, Copilot Studio for AI agents and Power Pages for external websites. They share Microsoft Dataverse as a common data platform and hundreds of connectors to Microsoft and third-party systems. Dynamics 365 apps run on Dataverse, so Power Platform is also how they are extended. MageBytes designs, builds and governs Power Platform solutions alongside Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365.

How We Work
From Use Case to Governed Solution
Effort depends on the number of apps and flows, data sources and licensing position — we confirm scope after discovery.
- 1
Discovery & Licensing Review
We list the processes and users involved, check which connectors and licences each scenario actually needs, and agree priorities.
- 2
Data & Environment Design
Dataverse tables, security roles and the development, test and production environments are designed and set up.
- 3
Build in Iterations
Apps, flows and reports are built in short cycles and reviewed with the people who will use them.
- 4
Test & Deploy
Solutions move through pipelines into production, with test scripts, user acceptance and rollback planned.
- 5
Adopt & Improve
Training, maker guidance and monitoring, then new features as usage grows.

Getting Power Platform Right
Where Power Platform fits, how to license and govern it, and how it works with Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365.

When Power Platform is the right tool
Power Platform suits internal processes that live in spreadsheets, email threads or paper forms: approvals, inspections, onboarding, requests, stock counts and status tracking. It is also the standard way to extend Dynamics 365 without heavy custom code. A Power App with a few flows can often replace a manual process in weeks rather than months.
It is not always the answer. High-volume customer-facing systems, complex transactional logic or products you plan to sell are often better as custom software. We'll say so during discovery rather than force a low-code build where it doesn't fit.
Licensing considerations
Licensing shapes the design, so we check it before building. Some Microsoft 365 plans include limited Power Apps and Power Automate rights for Microsoft 365 data and standard connectors such as SharePoint, Outlook and Teams. Premium connectors, Dataverse and custom connectors need premium licences: per user (Power Apps Premium, Power Automate Premium), per flow (Power Automate Process) or pay-as-you-go through Azure. Dynamics 365 licences include rights to use Power Apps and Power Automate within the context of the Dynamics 365 application.
Unattended desktop flows need a Power Automate Process licence or pay-as-you-go, while Power BI sharing and Copilot Studio usage (Copilot Credits) have their own licensing models. We map who needs what so you buy for real usage, and we always confirm current terms with your Microsoft licensing provider, as Microsoft updates them regularly.

Governance and Centre of Excellence
Power Platform spreads quickly once people see what it can do. Without guardrails, the result is hundreds of unowned apps in the default environment, flows that break when someone leaves, and data copied into places it shouldn't be. A Centre of Excellence is the team and set of practices that prevents this: who can build where, which connectors can be combined, how solutions are reviewed and how makers are supported.
Microsoft now steers governance towards the Power Platform admin center and managed environments, with built-in inventory, usage monitoring, sharing limits and data loss prevention policies. We set these up, design an environment strategy, and put application lifecycle management in place with solutions, source control and deployment pipelines.

Connectors and integration
Power Platform reaches other systems through connectors: Microsoft services such as SharePoint, Teams, Outlook and SQL, widely used SaaS products, and custom connectors we build over your own APIs. Where a system has no API, desktop flows can drive its user interface. For high-volume or business-critical integrations, we often recommend Azure services or dedicated middleware alongside Power Platform instead of flows alone.
Working with Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365
Dynamics 365 Sales, Customer Service and Field Service store their data in Dataverse, so model-driven apps, cloud flows and Power BI reports work directly with the same records. Business Central and Finance and Supply Chain Management connect through their own connectors and business events. On the Microsoft 365 side, apps can be embedded in Teams, approvals delivered in Outlook and Teams, and documents stored in SharePoint.
Copilot capabilities run through all of this. Copilot in Power Apps and Power Automate helps makers build from a description, and Copilot Studio extends Copilot in Dynamics 365 with agents grounded in your own data.

Power Platform FAQs
Products, licensing, governance and Dynamics 365 — answered.
Power Apps for building apps, Power Automate for workflow and robotic process automation, Power BI for reporting, Copilot Studio for AI agents and Power Pages for external websites. They share Dataverse as a data platform and a large library of connectors.
It depends on the scenario. Some Microsoft 365 plans include limited rights for apps and flows that use standard connectors. Premium connectors, Dataverse and custom connectors need premium licences, while Dynamics 365 licences cover use within the Dynamics 365 app. We review your scenarios and current licences before building, and confirm details with your licensing provider.
Dataverse is the secure, structured data platform behind Power Platform and Dynamics 365 customer engagement apps. It provides tables, relationships, business rules, security roles and auditing, so apps, flows and reports share consistent data.
Through governance set up early: an environment strategy, data loss prevention policies, managed environments with sharing limits, a clear process for promoting solutions to production, and support for makers. That is the core of a Centre of Excellence.
Yes. Business Central has connectors for Power Apps, Power Automate and Power BI, so you can build apps over Business Central data, trigger flows from Business Central events and approvals, and report on it in Power BI.
Copilot in Dynamics 365 is built into the apps, for example summarising records or drafting emails. Copilot Studio is the tool for building your own agents and extending Copilot with your data, actions and business rules.
Yes. We review existing apps, flows and environments, document what is there, fix fragile flows, move solutions into proper environments and pipelines, and support them from there.
