What Is Odoo Manufacturing

Production Planned in the Same System as Sales and Stock

Odoo Manufacturing, also called Odoo MRP, is the Odoo app for planning and running production. Bills of materials define what goes into each product, work centres and operations define where and how it is made, and manufacturing orders track every run, all sharing data with Odoo Inventory, Purchase, Sales and Accounting. Companion apps add quality control, equipment maintenance and product lifecycle management. MageBytes implements Odoo Manufacturing end to end: process design, BoM and routing setup, planning rules, shop floor rollout, data migration and training for planners and operators.

Plan My Odoo MRP Project
  • Plan from real demand

Sales orders, forecasts and reordering rules decide what gets made and bought.

  • See the floor

Work order progress, work centre load and component availability visible as production happens.

  • Know the real cost

Components and work centre time rolled into the cost of each manufacturing order.

How We Work

From Floor Walkthrough to Live Production

Every phase is checked on the production floor, not just on screen.

  1. 1

    Walkthrough & Fit-Gap

We follow orders through planning, production and dispatch, and agree which Odoo apps are in scope.

  2. 2

    Product & Routing Design

BoM structures, work centres, operations and planning rules are designed and signed off with your production team.

  3. 3

    Configure & Pilot

Odoo is configured in a test database and one product line runs real manufacturing orders end to end.

  4. 4

    Migrate & Train

Products, BoMs and open orders are loaded, and planners and operators are trained by role.

  5. 5

    Go Live & Tune

We support early live production and tune durations, capacities and reordering rules from real data.

In Depth

Planning an Odoo Manufacturing Implementation

The structural decisions that shape how well Odoo fits your production, and which apps you need to make them.

1

Which Odoo apps a manufacturer needs

Manufacturing orders and bills of materials are available in both Odoo Community and Enterprise. Several of the features manufacturers ask about most — PLM, Quality, the Shop Floor operator interface and the Master Production Schedule — are part of Odoo Enterprise, so the edition decision usually follows from the scope. Maintenance can be added where equipment uptime is a real constraint.

Most manufacturers start with Manufacturing, Inventory, Purchase and Accounting, then add Quality, Maintenance or PLM once core production is stable. We check each feature against your edition and version before it enters the scope.

  • Manufacturing: BoMs, orders, planning
  • Shop Floor: operator tablet view
  • Quality: control points & alerts
  • Maintenance: equipment & requests
  • PLM: engineering change orders
  • Inventory & Purchase: components
2

Getting bills of materials right

Planning, purchasing, costing and traceability all read from the bill of materials. Odoo supports multi-level BoMs, where sub-assemblies have their own BoMs, as well as kits that explode into components on sale, BoM lines that apply only to certain product variants, and by-products from the same run.

Most problems come from data rather than configuration: wrong units of measure, duplicate components or out-of-date spreadsheet BoMs. We validate BoM data with your engineers before loading it, because fixing it after go-live means correcting live orders and stock.

3

Work centres, operations and scheduling

Work centres represent the machines, lines or teams that do the work. Each has working hours, capacity, time efficiency, setup and clean-up times and an hourly cost. Operations on the BoM describe the steps, their expected durations and the work centre that performs them, which is how Odoo turns a manufacturing order into scheduled work orders and calculates labour and machine cost.

Timing every operation gives accurate cost and capacity data but asks operators to record more, so we match the level of detail to the decisions you'll actually use it for.

4

MRP: turning demand into production

In Odoo, products made in-house use a Manufacture route. Reordering rules raise manufacturing orders when stock drops below a minimum, and make-to-order products create a manufacturing order directly from the confirmed sale. The Master Production Schedule, an Enterprise feature, adds a planning grid for forecasting demand and setting production quantities by period.

Manufacturing can run in one, two or three steps — picking components, producing, storing finished goods — depending on your stores and lines. These routes are shared with Odoo Inventory, so we design them together.

5

Quality, maintenance and PLM in practice

Quality control points trigger pass/fail checks, measurements or instructions at chosen steps, and failed checks raise quality alerts. Maintenance records equipment, schedules preventive work and logs corrective requests, so planners see downtime alongside production.

PLM manages engineering change orders: a proposed BoM or routing change passes review and approval stages before a new version takes effect, with a history of what changed and why — useful wherever customers or regulators expect that record.

6

What drives cost and timeline

The main factors are the number of products and BoM levels, how many operations you track, lot or serial tracking, the scope of quality, maintenance and PLM, shop floor hardware, integrations and the state of your product data. Odoo licence costs are separate.

Got Questions?

Odoo Manufacturing FAQs

Apps, editions, planning and data — answered.

Core manufacturing — bills of materials and manufacturing orders — is available in Community. PLM, Quality, Shop Floor and the Master Production Schedule are Enterprise features, so most manufacturers implementing the full scope choose Enterprise.
