What Is Odoo.sh
Odoo's Own Platform for Customised Odoo
Odoo.sh is Odoo's cloud platform for hosting Odoo Enterprise with custom code. Each project is linked to a GitHub repository: every branch builds automatically, development branches run on test databases, staging branches run on neutralised copies of production, and merging into the production branch deploys the change. Odoo runs the servers, backups and monitoring, while the customer — or their implementation team — owns the code, the branches and the release process. MageBytes sets up Odoo.sh projects, designs the branch and release workflow, migrates databases onto the platform and manages releases and performance afterwards.
Plan My Odoo.sh SetupTested before it ships
Every commit builds and runs automated tests before it can reach production.
Staging that matches production
Changes tried on a copy of real data, with outgoing email caught rather than sent.
Infrastructure handled
Servers, backups and platform updates run by Odoo, not your team.
How We Work
From Hosting Decision to Routine Releases
A setup that's easy to run every week, not just on day one.
- 1
Assess & Choose
We confirm Odoo.sh is the right fit against Odoo Online and self-hosting, and agree region and sizing.
- 2
Set Up the Project
The Odoo.sh project and GitHub repository are created, modules organised and access set for your team.
- 3
Build the Workflow
Branch naming, testing, staging sign-off and release steps are agreed and documented.
- 4
Migrate & Go Live
Existing databases and code are moved in, tested on staging, and switched over with a planned DNS change.
- 5
Manage & Improve
We run releases, review logs and backups, and adjust resources as usage grows.

Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or self-hosted?
Odoo Online is Odoo's SaaS: the simplest to run, but limited to standard apps and Studio, with no custom Python modules. Odoo.sh adds custom code and a Git-based workflow while Odoo still runs the infrastructure; it's sold to Odoo Enterprise customers, whose subscription must include Odoo.sh, and the hosting fee is separate from the Enterprise licence. Self-hosting, on your own servers or a cloud provider, gives full control over the stack — and full responsibility for security, backups and upgrades.
If you run Odoo Community, plan to self-host it, because Odoo.sh and Odoo Online are sold with Enterprise. The right choice usually follows from your fit-gap analysis: how much custom code and integration you need.
- Odoo Online: standard apps & Studio
- Odoo.sh: custom modules, managed hosting
- Self-hosted: full control & responsibility
- Community edition: self-hosted
How branches work on Odoo.sh
Every Odoo.sh project has one production branch, plus staging and development branches. Development branches build a fresh test database and run automated tests on each commit. Staging branches build from a neutralised copy of production — outgoing email and other external actions are disabled — so changes can be tried on real data, and staging databases are temporary, so they're refreshed regularly.
Emails generated on development and staging are kept in a mail catcher rather than sent. Odoo.sh also provides logs in the browser, a web shell and SSH access to each build.
A release workflow that protects production
Odoo.sh makes deployment easy; discipline keeps it safe. We work in short-lived feature branches, merge into staging for testing with your key users, and only merge into production once changes are signed off. Module version numbers are raised when data or views change, so the module is updated on deployment.
For larger releases, we take a manual backup first and schedule the merge outside busy hours, with a clear rollback plan if something behaves differently in production.
- Feature branches with automated tests
- Staging sign-off on real data
- Version bumps that trigger updates
- Pre-release backup & rollback plan
Backups, recovery and monitoring
Odoo.sh backs up production databases every 24 hours across three data centres and keeps 14 backups for up to three months — daily for a week, weekly for a month and monthly for three months. A backup can be restored into production or a staging branch. Development and staging builds aren't backed up, so nothing important should live only there. We test restores periodically, because a backup only matters if it restores.
Upgrades on Odoo.sh
Odoo.sh has an Upgrade tab for requesting an upgraded copy of production. The upgraded database is tested on a staging branch with custom modules ported to the new version, and production is only upgraded once that combination works.
What Odoo.sh doesn't do for you
Odoo.sh runs the platform, not your application. It doesn't write, review or maintain custom modules, fix failing integrations or scheduled actions, port code at upgrade time, or test your business processes. Choosing workers and storage for your workload is your decision too. That's the gap we fill.

Odoo.sh FAQs
Platform, branches, backups and hosting choices — answered.
Odoo.sh is Odoo's cloud platform for hosting Odoo Enterprise with custom modules. It's linked to GitHub and provides development, staging and production branches, automated builds and tests, backups and monitoring.
Both are hosted by Odoo. Odoo Online is SaaS limited to standard apps and Studio; Odoo.sh supports custom Python modules and third-party apps, with a Git-based development and release workflow.
Odoo.sh is sold to Odoo Enterprise customers: your Enterprise subscription has to include Odoo.sh. If you run Odoo Community, the usual option is self-hosting on your own servers or a cloud provider — or moving to Enterprise, which we can help with.
Yes. Each Odoo.sh project is linked to a GitHub repository, and branches in that repository become development, staging or production branches on the platform.
Yes. Production databases are backed up every 24 hours across three data centres, with 14 backups kept for up to three months, and any backup can be restored to production or staging. Development and staging builds aren't backed up.
Yes. We move databases from Odoo Online or self-hosted servers, bring custom code into the repository, test on staging and switch your domain over in a planned window.
Self-hosting suits businesses that run Community, need full control of the stack, or have specific infrastructure requirements, and have the skills to manage it. Otherwise Odoo.sh usually means less to look after.
