What Is Copilot in Dynamics 365
AI Built into Your Business Apps
Copilot in Dynamics 365 is Microsoft's generative AI assistant built into apps such as Sales, Customer Service, Field Service, Business Central and the finance and operations apps. It helps people summarise records, draft emails and responses, and ask questions of business data in plain language. Microsoft Copilot Studio extends this with custom agents that use your own data, knowledge and actions, published to Teams, Microsoft 365 Copilot or your website. MageBytes prepares Dynamics 365 data and security for Copilot, rolls it out to teams, and builds custom agents for processes the standard features don't cover.
Plan My Copilot RolloutData first
We fix the data and permissions that decide whether Copilot's answers are useful.
People stay in control
Agents that change records or send messages include review and approval steps.
Dynamics specialists
We implement the Dynamics 365 apps themselves, so agents are designed around how the system really works.
How We Work
From Pilot to Everyday Use
Start small, measure, then scale what works. Timelines depend on scope and are agreed after discovery.
- 1
Use-Case Discovery
We find the tasks where Copilot or an agent would save the most time, and agree how to judge success.
- 2
Readiness
Data, security roles, environments and policies are reviewed and fixed before anything is switched on.
- 3
Pilot
Built-in features or a first agent go to a small group, with feedback gathered on accuracy and usefulness.
- 4
Build & Integrate
Agents gain the knowledge, flows and connectors they need, with approval steps where actions matter.
- 5
Roll Out & Improve
Wider rollout with training, monitoring and regular reviews as Microsoft adds features.

Planning Copilot for Dynamics 365
What's built in, when to build custom agents, and how to keep AI safe and affordable.
- Built-in Copilot or a custom agent?
- Getting your data ready
- Agents that take action
- Governance, licensing and cost
- Copilot changes every release wave
Built-in Copilot or a custom agent?
Start with what's built in. Copilot features inside the Dynamics 365 apps cover common tasks — summarising a case or opportunity, drafting a reply, answering questions about records — and need configuration and training rather than development.
Custom agents make sense when a process crosses systems, relies on your own documents and rules, or needs to take action: checking stock and order status for customers, preparing quotes, triaging incoming requests or helping staff follow internal procedures. Those are built in Copilot Studio.
Getting your data ready
Copilot reads the same records your people do. Duplicate accounts, empty fields, outdated knowledge articles and loose security roles all show up in its answers. We clean the data that matters for your first use cases, tighten access, and decide which knowledge sources agents may use.
- Duplicate & incomplete records
- Security roles & access
- Knowledge article quality
- Environment & data policies
Agents that take action
An agent becomes far more useful when it can do things: create a case, update an order, start an approval or fetch data from another system. We build those actions with Power Automate, connectors, APIs and MCP servers, and add human review wherever an action affects customers, money or stock.
Governance, licensing and cost
Some Copilot features are included with Dynamics 365 licences — for example, Sales Enterprise and Premium include Copilot summaries and email help. Microsoft's prebuilt agents and agents built in Copilot Studio run on Copilot Credits, bought pay-as-you-go through Azure, as prepaid packs or through a prepurchase plan, and some Dynamics 365 plans include a monthly allowance. Microsoft 365 Copilot is licensed separately. We help you understand the model for your use cases, set data policies and monitoring, and review usage so costs stay predictable. Licences are paid to Microsoft or your licensing provider.
Copilot changes every release wave
Microsoft adds and renames Copilot features and agents in each release wave, and availability varies by app, region and language. We check what's available for your apps and regions when planning, and review new features with you after each wave rather than building something Microsoft is about to ship.

Copilot for Dynamics 365 FAQs
Features, agents, data and licensing — answered.
Copilot in Dynamics 365 is built into the apps and handles common tasks such as summaries and drafting. Copilot Studio is Microsoft's platform for building custom agents with your own knowledge, instructions and actions.
Microsoft has added Copilot features across Sales, Customer Service, Field Service, Business Central and the finance and operations apps, among others. Features vary by app, region and language, so we check what's available for your setup.
Usually some clean-up helps. Copilot answers from your records, so duplicates, missing fields and outdated knowledge reduce accuracy. We focus on the data behind your first use cases rather than everything at once.
Yes. Agents can create and update records, start flows and call other systems through connectors and APIs. We add approval steps wherever an action affects customers, money or stock.
Agents built in Copilot Studio can be published to Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365 Copilot, websites and other channels, depending on your licensing and requirements.
Some Copilot features come with Dynamics 365 licences. Agents — Microsoft's prebuilt ones and those built in Copilot Studio — run on Copilot Credits, bought pay-as-you-go, as prepaid packs or through a prepurchase plan, and some plans include an allowance. Microsoft 365 Copilot is licensed separately. We explain the model for your use cases; licences are bought from Microsoft or your licensing provider.
Copilot respects the security roles and permissions in Dynamics 365, so people only see what they already can. We review roles, data policies and monitoring as part of every rollout.
